The NYX Smokey Look Kit retails for $12.99 at ULTA, but I got mine from from HauteLook.  I had high hopes for this palette since it has a 4.6 rating on MakeUpAlley.  This palette contains 9 cool-toned shadows that are perfect for a smokey eye look.  There are shimmery shades, as well as two matte shades.

When I first swatched it, I was pretty disappointed with it.  I had to swatch it quite a few times just to get good enough pigment to photograph, and they were also quite chalky with a lot of fall out.  But when applied to my eyes with a good primer (I used UDPP), it stuck on pretty well and had good staying power.  I wore it all afternoon, had dinner with my boyfriend, and even grabbed a few drinks afterwards and it stayed on great.  I haven't tried this without a primer yet, but based on the swatches, I imagine it wouldn't hold up very well.

I do love how compact this is.  It's so tiny yet has a wide range to work with.  This makes it great to travel with because it takes up such little space and can be used for day or evening time.  But given the so-so quality of the shadows, I can't imagine grabbing for this over other palettes in my collection.

And the glosses?  They're a nice thought, but I could definitely do without them.
